Making A Statement

As proud maximalists, we often catch ourselves talking about gallery walls so much that we tend to forget how much of an impact individual pieces can make. So, what are your options when you decide not to cram the walls floor to ceiling with paintings? Despite popular belief, it doesn’t have to be all about the primary coloured abstracts (although we’re big fans). Statement pieces can play so many roles within an interior, whether you want a piece to be the center of attention or use it to bring together a room, the options really are endless. Luckily Instagram seems to be bursting with designers with unique takes on how to present statement artworks, there’s so much inspiration to be had! So look no further, we’ve put together a little lookbook on some of our favourite designs sporting individual paintings and a few of our own available artworks that we think would make a bold stamp in any interior.

Everything about this bathroom detail makes our hearts swell.Vintage Jesus BEAUTIFULLY compliments both the red in the towels and blue tiles! A 10/10 design as always from @harrisvintage who is a great source of knowledge for all things art placement and interiors.

When searching our archives for statement pieces, this lovely lady really fit the bill. Her striking features paired with a cool palette makes for a truly eye catching piece.

Jean Dulac (1902-1968) - Mid 20th Century Oil, Georgette

Notice how everything in this room leads to the fireplace portrait? We can't take our eyes these lovely ladies and that's exactly why they're there!

Anything Jawlenski inspired is, in our opinion, made to be a statement piece. This vibrant lady speaks for herself!

Leeley after Alexej von Jawlensky - 1997 Oil, Fruit Hateonie

A much more serious interior by Penrose Tilbury. This gorgeous portrait adds so much elegance and depth to the whole interior. Beautifully placed!

There’s always room for a charismatic portrait! And just look at those faces!
20th Century Oil - Abstract Man

Kerstin McGregor (1962-2012) - Contemporary Oil, Marie

We can't quite convey just how large and lovely this landscape is online. But it's quite the whopper. Beautifully framed and with soothing tones, it's an easy one to get lost in.

Margaret Neame - Framed Early 20th Century Oil, Brown Cob on a Coastal Cliff Top

A wonderful testament to how loud wall paper and an equally loud painting are a heavenly match! We're head over heels for this bedroom interior that recently made its debut in House and Garden.

If there’s one designer who knows how to blend a single statement piece seamlessly into their interiors it’s Anna Eleri. If you’re looking for inspiration of how and where to hang large oil pieces we’d recommend heading straight for her page!

Small, dark, moody. What a lovely twist on what a statement piece of art should do! We have to admit, sometimes less is more.

The perfect symmetry is a statement in itself, but what a sweet picture!
