Staples of the Gallery Wall

Your empty wall space is calling for change and this time one lonely statement piece simply will not do. The gallery wall is taking interior trends by storm, and you can find people adorning their houses, no matter the room, with eclectic ensembles of prints, paintings and ceramics which always seem to have tumbled together in perfectly harmonious order. The endless possibilities of colour schemes, themes and hanging space can make it difficult to know where to begin - but initial intimidations should not take away from the fun of arranging your treasured art pieces. If you’re struggling on where to start, we’ve put together a look-book of some of our  favourite gallery walls that we’ve seen online, coupled with inspired pieces from our own collection - we’re hoping it strikes some inspiration!

Now we can’t all have a collection a wonderful as David from @itstartedwithajug, but if you’re looking for a 20th century inspired gallery wall his Instagram page is the best place to start. His magnificent selection of Bloomsbury finds (featuring works by Duncan Grant, Roger Fry and Vanessa Bell) adorn his walls in ever changing sequences which he achieves through the occasional rehang. Every time the pieces are rearranged the harmonious style of the collection is pulled together in a fresh way.

Shop the look: We love how these pieces incorporate the Bloomsbury style in their soft tones and floral motifs - the perfect start to a mid century inspired gallery wall!

Mats Mason (1894-1983) - Swedish School 1962 Oil Spring Flowers
Axel Hamborn (1892-1987) - Mid 20th Century Oil Sweet Peas
M. Inwood - Modern British 20th Century Oil Fruit on a Window Ledge

Kirsten Tangeros sets the bar incredibly high with her eclectic selection of vintage finds. We have so much admiration for how she communicates her love for animals and the countryside through the charismatic gallery walls that run through her home.

If colour is what you’re after then look no further than the beautifully bright interiors of Swedish blogger Sebastian Bergström. Pops of red, funky frames and sweet still life studies make up his eye catching gallery walls.

If contemporary works are more your thing you’ll want to look to the home of Adam Spychala of @didyouseeadam whose exquisitely styled Berlin apartment has been seen in the pages of Elle. His eye for dynamic compositions and complimentary colours has made his home an Instagram icon. We love the waterfall style of his gallery wall, drawing the eye down to some of the larger pieces in his collection.

These two designs from Isabella Worsley and Robert Kime are proof that we should never fear mounts when curating a gallery wall. We love the contrast between the straight white card mounts on patterned paper from Robert Kime and Worsley’s mix of double card and washline mounts on a solid mint green paint! Both are incredibly effective.
